Back in December (2018) my best friend Maddie and I went to Mount Laguna for the day to take pictures of her dog Bentley. It turned into a full on photoshoot and a great day full of winter adventures. For us San Diego girls, winter adventures is literally anything that has to do with snow activities even though we don't live in the snow. So we have the options of ice skating near the beach at Coronado, drinking hot chocolate, driving around to see Christmas lights, actually being able to snuggle up under the blankets near the fireplace (that only few houses have, so if we don't have one then it's time to turn on the heater), and that's really about it. There might be a few winter festivals/ neighborhood celebrations but if you want that winter wonderland experience then you have to drive to the mountains. Big Bear is a big favorite for SoCal residents looking for snow, and if you're willing to take the 8 hour drive then Mammoth Lakes is also a really good option. Both offers skiing and snow boarding and sledding - oh my! - but Maddie and I weren't looking for the total winter experience on this day. We were just looking for some winter scenes and a temperature that was still bearable for our California girl taste. What better place to go then the short drive to Mount Laguna? If you ever visit, keep going to the top of the mountain to avoid dealing with the crowds of people. There's also better views and typically more snow. Before we got to the top, we stopped at the little convenience store on the way up to buy some snacks. I was getting pretty hangry and knew I couldn't take cute pictures on an empty stomach. We bought some chips and made our way to the top. We got out and let Bentley, Maddie's dog, get out and run around. He was having a blast playing in the snow and chasing scents. We got some pictures of him first because he was going to be the hardest to pose but then after that, Maddie and I had our own photoshoot to get some nice winter pictures. For those of you who don't know, Maddie is an amateur photographer who takes some amazing shots. She's currently building up her portfolio and has started her own business "Mads Lee Photography," and, lucky for me, I'm her favorite subject... next to Bentley of course. I dabble in photography, and even though I don't have the skills that Maddie has, I always make sure to get some good shots of my bestie. So we took hundreds of pictures and had a blast throwing up snow and leaves and goofing around. Luckily it wasn't too cold, but after a while our fingers started getting numb and that's when we knew it was time to start heading back down. Overall it was a really nice day trip and getaway from our normal routine. I definitely recommend Mount Laguna for anyone who enjoys seeing snow, likes to hike, or anyone who wants to have a little photoshoot before all the snow melts away from San Diego. Here are a few of the best pictures from our fun snow day! Sincerely, Alana
