I Am Who I Am

Introvert: a person characterized by concern primarily with his or her own thoughts and feelings.

It's said that Capricorns tend to watch people and stay in the background. We are said to be quiet and observant, and although that is true, I don't think it's something that can be placed solely on us because of our zodiac sign. That does however explain introverts.

I was talking to a friend not too long ago and she was telling me and another friend about not really being able to figure out what she wants to do. I mentioned to her that she needed to sit down with her thoughts and write everything down. Take time to figure all of this out. More specifically I said, "I'm able to do this because I'm always in my head." She then said, "are you saying that I don't think?" She said it jokingly, but honestly, she probably doesn't think as much as I do. Because she is an extrovert.

One of the main reasons I am so easily bothered is because I'm always thinking. I think about what's good and more importantly what's bad. I allow things to bother me because they are never far from my mind. This is a good thing and it's also a bad thing. Yes, I figure problems out before moving on to the next, but not without giving myself an intense headache.

I've been sitting at the computer all day today working on this post. I had no idea what I was going to write about, but I knew that I had something to say. Thoughts have been swirling around in my head, and like a baseball player up to bat, I've knocked every thought that didn't work out of the park. That was pretty much every thought. But I stayed in my head most of the day with quite a few interruptions that had me grinding my teeth.

Introverts, we're a funny bunch. Extroverts don't get us. They think we're too quiet and slightly boring. We don't do small talk, and big parties? Yeah, not so much. Yes, we'll go, but people will most likely think we're being stuck up because of our lack of conversation. The silence simply means, I'm watching you, and I have thoughts. However, it's not necessary for my to speak these thoughts. We don't like large groups, and we don't like having a bus load of friends. Give us five really good friends, and we're happy.

Being an introvert has made people judge me harshly. I can't tell you how often I've heard, "oh my God! You are so nice! I had no idea." I mean, what can you really say after that declaration? When I start a new job, I always make it a point to introduce myself to my new co-workers before they can introduce themselves to me. This shows them exactly who I am, and it lets them know that it's ok to approach me. It wasn't always like this though. Just ask my co-workers from BabyStyle.

The word introvert makes those that aren't, a little weary when meeting one. But you shouldn't avoid us. We're really nice. But just make sure you have something to say when you start up a conversation. Remember, we don't do small talk.
