Religion...Ya'll Are Making This Too Damn Hard

10:00 AM

Everyone needs something to believe in. Kids need the tooth fairy, and Santa, some adults need the Bible and Religion. And that's totally fine, I don't knock those who have their own beliefs. I do however question those who try to defend the Bible when someone goes against it or say that it's not for them.

I don't read the Bible, never have read the Bible. I tried, but it was...dare I say, boring? If I want to read a story, I'll pull one my many books off the book shelf and get into that. I don't want to read something that was created for one thing but is being used for something totally different. I feel like the Bible has been tainted by those who make others feel bad for not following it. Pushing it on people, trying to make them believe that the stories written are true. As opposed to believing that the stories were written to maybe teach you something, like stories that have morals at the end of them. If I had a penny for every time someone said to me, well the Bible says...I'd be on the Forbes list with Jay-Z and Beyonce'.

"Christians became Christians to avoid being Christ like. You can’t worship someone else and still locate the authentic and beautiful and special parts about you"  ~Bassey Ikpi

It gets old. I pray, I talk to God (he doesn't talk back) but I don't go to Church and I don't live my life by the Bible. I'm a sinner, but God still loves me. And the reality is, he will love me whether I think like those who say they are right and I am wrong or not. I'm not perfect, I don't try to be, I don't fight with those who believe something different than I do, I don't have time to judge you, or tell you that you're going to hell because you did something that the Bible said was wrong. Those who sit around preaching about what the Bible says really do work my nerves. Listen, you believe that it helps, I believe that you need something to believe in. Extreme Christians turn me off. Someone telling me that I am living my life wrong, or I'm going to hell, because the Bible said so. Not because God said but the Bible. You can't force me to think like you, and pushing your beliefs on me only makes me rebel and do the complete opposite of what you're saying I should do. Stop it! I'm a Christian, but I am flawed, and I promise you, I am less of a sinner than most people who act like they are living their life, "right".

I respect those who choose to stray away from what they've been taught, or what has become the norm, and not because you feel the need to rebel, but because you truly believe in what you believe in. I respect that a lot more than I do those who want to drop a scripture in the middle of a conversation in hopes of winning what has now become an argument. You know the conversations I'm talking about,

"I don't do the whole religion thing."

"Well God said, he who is without sin cast the first stone."

WHAT?!

"Jesus is on the main line tell him what you WANT!"

I want you to go sit down somewhere with all of this foolishness. And then you have the people who end the conversation with, "I'm going to pray for you." Come on! If someone doesn't believe what you believe, accept it, and get the hell over it. Because I can tell you right now, there will be a lot of things in life you're passionate about that people won't agree with you on. It is not your job to change their mind, but rather accept and respect their thoughts as they will hopefully do yours. This is life and everybody has an opinion on how to live it. Who's to say anybody has to be wrong? The popular decision is not always the right decision. But I have to ask, if you're always living your life for God, when will you start living your life for you?
