The Toxic Friendship

"Friendship... is not something you learn in school. But if you haven't learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven't learned anything."
~Muhammad Ali

On the ride home tonight from work, I started thinking about a friend (I'm using that term very loosely right now) that's in my life but probably shouldn't be.Our friendship is so toxic, but yet I continue to hold on to it. Its like I'm waiting for it to change and get better, but its just not. I'm trying to hold on to a friendship that's trying to break free. This isn't healthy and I know it, but for some reason I want it work. I've just put so much work into this friendship that it would be a shame to see it fail. It's like breaking the heel on your favorite shoe and gluing it back on because you aren't quite ready to throw the shoes away and you can't find anyone to fix it; yet you want to continue to wear them and walk around in them as if they aren't broken.(That was seriously the worst analogy ever, but I'm tired so work with me). The truth is, glue only works for so long, sooner or later, you will have to get rid of the shoes (friendship) because it just doesn't work anymore. My point? This just isn't working anymore...wait my point is: you have to get rid of all things that aren't good for you and that includes toxic relationships.
